Social activist Musaddiq Reyaz urges LG Sinha to allow mini transport in Srinagar
PULWAMA: People, as well as mini transport drivers, are going through unimaginable hardships and it stretches one’s tolerance to the ultimate limit, social activist Bhat Musaddiq Reyaz said.
"Students, patients, employees coming from different areas, especially from south Kashmir including Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian & Kulgam suffer a lot due to no entry of mini transport in the city area. They have to change few vehicles to reach their respective destination," he added.
Saying that drivers who are the worst sufferers of shutdown calls, curfews from 2016 and COVID-19 are depressed over the rules set by SSP Traffic, Musaddik said this has not only increased the hassles of the public, but even it also causes loss to the economy of Srinagar along it affecting the livelihood of drivers.
He said, "Not only this, it is like a nightmare to visit Srinagar because to reach one's destination in the city, one has to board 2-3 vehicles and obviously it will make one's travel much more expensive."
"How can this fact be ignored that travellers with disabilities make a majority of their trips in service vehicles & rely heavily on walking. Not everyone can afford the luxury of private vehicles," he further said.
"In this modern and busy world, efficient & fast-moving transport is much needed; Transport, communication & trade are complementary to each other. It is said that rural environment is often the growth engine of a country but rules are made which stop countryside people to visit cities," Musaddik added.
The activist said rural communities, drivers, students are requesting the authorities to allow the mini transport to enter the city area as all this is very challenging for each one of them.
